Haad Chaloklum

Thai Music

In a bend on the road from chaloklum to Mae Haad is a nice looking Thai bar/restaurant, The Guitar Bar, and every time we walked by we were greeted very heartly. When we finally went in to have a drink there, we were told that the next evening there would be live music, so we promised to be there the next evening. The next day the girl from the Guitar Bar met us on the other side of the village, and we were emphatically reminded of the live music that evening. So we really had to go there.

Jam Session Omega Bar

At first the owner sang and played the guitar all by himself. He had a nice voice. later a group of Russians entered, and got on stage. They were very good, and entertaining. Even later a British lady Jazz singer joined, with a voice like a cathedral. As we had eaten before we went to the bar where we only had drinks, while we were enjoying the music and the relaxed, friendly vibes, but judging by the speed and voracity with wich the Russians licked their plates clean the food must have been great. The business is run by a young couple that work very hard and try teir utmost to make it success. This is a definite goto place if you're in the neighbourhood.

Omega bar

Omega bar

Once a week, on Wednesdays, the Omega Bar is open and featuring a jam session. The Italian restaurant and pizzeria is closed on that day, as the Italian cook/owner is also the owner of the Omega bar. This Italian guy loves regularity because twice a week it is pizza-night in his restaurant, and he makes the pizzas all from scratch. But he is not only the owner of those places, he also plays several instruments. So we have seen him playing on the guitar and on conga's as you can see all the way on the left in the picture.

Didgeridoo

Didgeridoo

The high point of our last two wednesdys at the Omega Bar was undoubtably the performance on the didgeridoo. The sonorous rythmical sound produced on the Didgeridoo was accompanied by guitar, assorted drums and some exotic other instruments some of which more resembled children's toys than musical instruments. The atmosphere is relaxed and everybody is having fun. Another Italian guy, Gigi would always enliven the experiene with his particular dances, (something akin to a monkey dance or such). It was hard to stay still on the sonorous sounds of the digeridoo.
